Taking a Moment to Reflect
Several of us at The Holding Group had the opportunity to attend the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC) conference this past week here in Denver. Our unanimous experience was one of re-invigoration, excitement, and perspective beyond the day-to-day. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals, and having the time to marinate in their ideas and solutions within our often-frustrating medical system, was both exhausting and deeply inspiring. I’ve found myself repeatedly awe-struck over the last few days at the simple, yet effective, methods by which my colleagues across the nation are achieving so much with so little.
This coming Tuesday brings with it our long-anticipated Presidential election and, imminently, the answer to how the course of health care in this country will be forged. In the midst of this, our friends, families and colleagues on the East Coast continue to pull together resources and recover from Hurricane Sandy; their collective efforts are humbling. To put it mildly: this is a tumultuous time for the country. The lessons and inspiration of this past week for those of us who were able to attend the SSWLHC conference will undoubtedly serve to both center and guide us through the days and weeks to come. Just a reminder to us all to take the time necessary, when the opportunity arises, to dive into and reflect on what is energy-giving.
